Local history
To us, being local means feeling at home.
It doesn’t matter where you were born, what language you speak, or what country you call home.
We’ve all experienced that moment when someone opens the door to their home, offers us a drink and, without really knowing us, makes us feel as though we’ve always belonged there.
That moment changed the way we understand hospitality.
It all began in Oaxaca.
After spending several days traveling through different villages and mezcal distilleries in search of the mezcal we had imagined, we arrived at the palenque of Leonel Hernández, a mezcal master whose family has dedicated generations to preserving this craft.
But it wasn’t only his mezcal that won us over… It was the way he welcomed us.
He opened the doors of his home to us. He shared his table, his food, his story, and his time.
Before we realized it, we no longer felt like visitors. He made us feel like locals.
That day, we understood that the best mezcal doesn’t begin with the agave. It begins with people.
More than a spirit, sharing mezcal in Mexico has never been just about pouring a drink. It’s an invitation to talk, to celebrate, to listen, and to stay a little longer.
Every bottle is an excuse to bring people together around the table, because the best stories rarely begin with “Once upon a time.” They begin with:
“Can I pour you another?”… That’s how Mezcal LOCAL was born.
We didn’t choose that name because it describes a place. We chose it because it describes a feeling: the feeling of belonging, of being welcomed, and of discovering that, even far from home, there are still people who can make you feel part of something.
That’s what it means to be LOCAL.
